Dr. V. Prasanna Venkatesan is a distinguished Professor in the Department of Banking Technology at the School of Management, Pondicherry University, India. With over three decades of academic and research experience, he has made pioneering contributions in the fields of software architecture, service-oriented architecture, business intelligence, smart computing, and banking technology. His career exemplifies a rare blend of technological depth and managerial foresight, shaping interdisciplinary education at the intersection of IT, finance, and management.
Dr. Venkatesan began his academic journey with a B.Sc. in Physics from Madras University in 1986, followed by an MCA in Computer Applications and an M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, both from Pondicherry University. He completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the same institution in 2008, focusing on architectural models for multilingual software —a foundation that later shaped his contributions to multilingual software and digital banking innovations.
He started his career as a Lecturer in Computer Science at Tagore Arts College and progressed through the ranks at Pondicherry University—serving as Lecturer, Reader, Associate Professor, and currently as a Professor in the Department of Banking Technology. He has been instrumental in developing and delivering innovative curriculum frameworks for interdisciplinary programs such as MBA (Banking Technology), MBA (Financial Technology), and the integrated B.Tech (Computer Science and Business Systems)–MBA program.
His research interests span across software architecture, distributed systems, AI applications in banking, multilingual software ecosystems, and digital transformation in financial services. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers and presented at both national and international conferences. Notably, his work on the Architecture Reference Model for Multilingual Software has been referenced in academic and policy circles.
Dr. Venkatesan has been recognized with several awards, including the Best Teacher Award from Pondicherry University for the academic year 2015–2016. He also received the Best Thesis Award and Best Presentation Award at the International Conference on Indigenous Management Practices in 2009. In recognition of his scholarly influence, he was listed in the 33rd edition of Marquis International Who’s Who in 2016.
Beyond teaching and research, he has actively contributed to academic leadership and mentorship. He has guided a substantial number of postgraduate dissertations and is a doctoral supervisor for research in areas such as AI in banking, trust and security in neobanking, and sustainable financial technology and successfully guided 14 scholars. He also contributes to university-level curriculum design committees and has collaborated with industry and government bodies for research and capacity building.
Fluent in English and Tamil, Dr. Venkatesan combines technical rigor with a passion for inclusive and transformative education. His current focus includes harnessing AI and NLP to empower informal sectors, designing frameworks for sustainable fintech, and building capacity for digital trust in emerging economies.
He remains deeply committed to fostering innovation, interdisciplinary research, and future-ready professionals in the dynamic field of banking technology.
