The Department of Management (DoM) at Karaikal Campus of Pondicherry University has been at the forefront of nurturing industry-ready professionals in the domains of Insurance and Business Management since its inception in 2009. As a regional leader in management education, the department offers a unique blend of specialised and general management programmes that address emerging industry needs and national priorities.
The flagship MBA in Insurance Management, launched in 2009, remains one of the few distinctive programmes in the country offered by a Central University. Developed in academic collaboration with the Insurance Institute of India (III), Mumbai, this programme is designed to meet the evolving demands of the insurance sector. The curriculum integrates core principles with real-world practices, equipping students with expertise in risk management, insurance operations in life and non-life segments, and strategic decision-making. Graduates of this programme have consistently secured placements in leading insurance companies across the country, often with attractive compensation packages.
In response to the growing demand for broader management education, the department introduced the MBA in Business Administration in 2021. This programme offers functional specialisations in Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, and Operations, providing a comprehensive business education for students aiming to build careers across diverse sectors.
In line with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the department is set to launch a 4-year BBA (Hons.) programme from the academic year 2025–26. This initiative is aimed at providing undergraduate students with a strong foundation in business education while promoting interdisciplinary learning and early research orientation.
The department is supported by a team of five highly experienced faculty members, each with strong academic credentials, research excellence, and industry engagement. Their collective expertise strengthens the department’s commitment to quality education and impactful research across both insurance and business domains.
The doctoral research programme in the department is also making significant contributions. Doctoral students are actively engaged in research across various areas including Insurance, Marketing, Human Resources, and Finance, and have demonstrated their academic strength through quality publications and a growing number of Ph.D. degrees awarded.
Our alumni network, cultivated over the past 15 years, is one of the department’s greatest strengths. Graduates hold diverse roles in public and private sector insurance firms, corporate organisations, and start-ups. Many actively support the department through curriculum development, guest lectures, mentoring, internships, and placement facilitation.
