Pondicherry University signed an MoU with University of East Paris (UPEC). Dr.G.Subhalakshmi, Assistant Professor & MoU Coordinator handed over the signed Specific Mobility Implementation Convention (SMIC) to the honourable Vice-Chancellor(i/c) Prof. K.Tharanikkarasu in the presence of Prof. Subramanya Raju Dean (International Relations) and Prof.S.Victor Anandkumar, Dean (i/c) and Dr.Gurminder Kaur, Head(i/c) School of Law along with the other faculty members

Pondicherry University signed an MoU with M/s.Pawan Hans Ltd on 03.05.2024. Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. Tharanikkarasu presided over the signing ceremony. Director (C&CR), Registrar (i/c), Dean (IR), Dr. B. Charumathi, and other officials were present.

About

Background of R & D Cell:

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 envisages the promotion of quality research within the Higher Education system. Research and innovation are important aspects to enhance quality education by the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Societal challenges of our country can only be addressed by having a strong and vibrant higher education ecosystem with an emphasis on research, innovation, and technology development. The integration of Research, Innovation and Technology Development is the foundation of Atma-Nirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India). The establishment of Research and Development Cell (RDC) in HEIs will enable attainment of targets of Atma-Nirbhar Bharat and is expected to play a pivotal role in catalyzing multidisciplinary/ transdisciplinary and translational research culture mandated in NEP 2020.

To put in place a robust mechanism for developing and strengthening the research ecosystem within Pondicherry University aligned with the provisions of NEP-2020 and beyond.

MISSION

To promote and facilitate cutting-edge research and development initiatives that contribute to the advancement of knowledge and address real-world challenges
Create a conducive environment for enhanced research productivity.
To encourage collaboration across industry, government, community-based organizations and agencies at the local, national and international levels
To facilitate greater access to research through mobilization of resources and funding.

OBJECTIVES

To foster a vibrant research environment within the University.
To encourage interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers
To formulate Research Policy for the Pondicherry University.
To provide support in grant proposal development and submission
To assist researchers in identifying and applying for external funding opportunities.
To facilitate collaborations with industry partners, research Institutions and NGOs.
To encourage formulation and submission of joint research projects
To facilitate interactions between researchers and industry for collaborative projects and knowledge exchange.
To Support initiatives that bridge between academia and industry.
To provide guidance on intellectual property protection and commercialization,
To facilitate the filing of patents and licenses for innovative technologies.
To identify thrust areas of research, and form related cluster groups/ frontline teams/consortia of researchers.
To create enabling provisions in Research Policies for recruitment of research personnel, procurement of equipment, and financial management with adequate autonomy to the Principal Investigator(s) and disseminate research outcomes to stakeholders and the public at large.
To establish a special purpose vehicle to promote researchers and innovators, identify potential collaborators from industry, research organizations, academic institutions & other stakeholders for cooperation and synergistic partnerships.
To act as a liaison between researchers & relevant research funding agencies, extend guidance in preparation & submission of project proposals and post-sanctioning of the grants to oversee adherence to timelines.
To promote ethical research culture among researchers.
To have better coordination among other Cells/centers dealing with University-Industry Inter Linkage, Incubation, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
To develop an Institutional Research Information System for sharing the status of ongoing/ completed research projects/Programmes, expertise & resources, etc., making effective use of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) for preparing the database of in-house experts to provide industrial consultancy and services.
To serve as nodal center for ideation and conceptualization of research topics/themes by organizing workshops and training programs and ensuring the integrity and ethical practices in research activities including clearance of bioethical committee wherever required.

Roles and Responsibility of R&D Cell

To enhance the research ecosystem in the University and to raise its profile by depicting the strengths of the University with reference to available infrastructure and expertise that can add to the visibility with the external funding bodies.
To create awareness among faculty members about the opportunities and avenues available for them towards participating in R&D activities and to encourage faculty members to submit research/ project proposals to various National and International funding bodies
To sensitize the faculty and research scholars to publish their research work in reputed national and international journals/conferences.
To initiate and promote MoU/MoA with industries, R&D organizations for consultancy, collaborative research, collaborative projects, etc and strengthen Industry-University interactions.
To facilitate faculty members to apply and receive funds for conducting the seminars/workshops from various funding agencies.
To process matters related to Global Tendering Enquiry.
To enable IP related activities including protection and management. Filing and approvals for patents filed by the University.
To evolve transparent rules and guidelines for protecting IP and transfer of knowledgebase.
To help faculty members to know the process of converting research output to prototype and in turn into products and the process for submissions of application for IPR.
To propagate the knowledge of data privacy and data protection laws, regulations, policies, procedures, best practices.
To establish policies and guidelines including finance management as deemed fit for execution of the research projects and to prescribe application documents for the purpose.
To conduct workshops and sensitization programs on capacity building in terms of research/consultancy/collaboration and to coordinate with multidisciplinary interest groups to bring in new cross and multi-disciplinary research initiatives
To arrange guest lectures under University-Industry interactions to promote research on industry needs and to arrange talks and interactions by eminent personalities from Industry, R&D organizations and institutions of repute.
