Research Area
Optical Phenomena both at macroscopic level and microscopic level are the most exciting things to watch as they convey not only the deep interplay of light with matter but also reveal the nature of the matter and the resultant interactions. In our group we study the effect of light propagation through the matter at extreme intensities where refractive index is dependent on the intensity of light resulting in host of nonlinear optical effects. This effects can be used both as probe to understand the dynamical processes as well as can be exploited for different applications ranging from frequency conversion to modulation light properties. The light at extreme low light level wherein the quantum effects become more dominant yield to its particulate nature “Photons” which can harnessed as the carrier of the information. In our group, we study the host of phenomena through Numerical modelling and simulation using algorithms based on FDTD( Light propagating through media), DFT, TD-DFT ( Response of material to the light at the microscopic level) and experiments using Low power cw lasers to High Power Ultrafast lasers.
I have obtained my PhD in Nonlinear Optics from Department of Physics, IIT Kanpur. Subsequently I worked in TIFR(Mumbai)as a Visiting Fellow for brief period before moving on to Materials Research Institute @ The Pennsylvania State University (University Park ) USA. I returned to BITS Pilani India as a Lecturer in Physics Group and have been at Pondicherry University (Department of Physics)since 2006.
