Prof. B. M. Jaffar Ali, is an interdisciplinary researcher in the field of biological physics and materials for bioenergy conversion and CO2 sequestration. His research group works on advanced materials/processes for biomass conversion to biofuel and application for CO2 capture and utilization. Dr.Jaffar Ali has done Ph.D. in Physics from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, pursued postdoctoral research at The Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel and National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bangalore. He had extensively worked on optical manipulations of single molecule DNA, protein and cells. Contributed to the development of biosensors for diagnostic applications. Currently focusing his teaching and research on bioenergy, biophotonics, and materials for bioenergy conversion and CO2 sequestration. Recently, he had concluded the SPARC Indo-Brazil collaborative project on novel method of biofuel production and processes, culminating with filing of two Indian patents and high-impact research publications. In this directon, he had carried out research on synthesis and environmental remediation of visible light active photocatalysts. Specifically, developed good expertise in the synthesis and characterization of metal oxide photocatalysts and their heterojunctions, and 2D/2D MXene photocatalyst systems for environmental remediation and CO2RR application. His recent work includes development of processes for direct CO2 capture in activated and doped carbon and in cement block materials, efforts to develop immobilized catalysts through custom designed 3D print instrument. Also, Dr.Jaffar Ali has assisted students and scholars in launching their entrepreneurial ambitions by catalysing them in launching start-up companies such as FIREKUBES, XENOBIOMICS, CQUEST BIOSOLUTIONS, CATALUMA etc.
