Dr. C. Jerome Samraj, has completed his PhD from Madras Institute of Development Studies, on the topic “The Question of Land to the Dalits: A Historical Perspective” in which he has examined how caste as a social system has determined people’s right to land during the pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial period. After his PhD he worked as a Research Associate with Institute for Financial and Management Research where he was involved in several projects simultaneously and have done extensive fieldwork across Tamil Nadu. He then joined as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics, Pondicherry University in 2011 and has been teaching papers like Economics of Growth and Development, Environment Economics, and Research Methodology. He was invited as Short Term Visiting Guest Professor by the Centre for Modern Indian Studies, Goerg- August University of Gottingen, Germany. His research interest includes studies on Caste, Socio-Economic Impact Evaluations of Development Interventions, Multiple dimensions of poverty and deprivation, informal sector, etc. His recent publications are related to caste, state and access to judiciary, in addition to papers addressing structural inequalities, and discrimination.
