About the Course
Established in 2024 with a four-year Bachelor's Degree, the curriculum for both Bachelor's and Master's Programmes is designed to give a deeper understanding and appreciation of Indian Culture, Heritage, Conservation and preservation of Indian Art practices, creativity and craftsmanship such as Terracotta Art, Kalamkari Painting, Tanjore Painting and Indian Mural traditions. These are imparted through the exploration of the language, skills and materials of Visual Art practised in India. An exposure to Asian art practices and other world art practices is taught as part of the curriculum. Special focus is given to Sustainability, contribution to a safe environment through Public Art and Upcycling skills through art practices, which aims to keep a clean and green climate for the present and for future generations. The courseĀ Visual Arts at Pondicherry University is dedicated to fostering creative expression, intellectual inquiry, and technical mastery in the field of fine arts. Situated within the School of Media and Communication, the course offers specialised training in painting through its Bachelor of Visual Arts (B.V.A.) and Master of Visual Arts (M.V.A.) programmes. Blending tradition with innovation, the course provides a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to art education. Students are mentored to develop their own visual language, engage critically with artistic traditions, and contribute meaningfully to contemporary art discourses.

Highlights of the Department
Eminent Faculty: Led by experienced artists and researchers with national and international recognition, the faculty guides students in both practice and theory. International Exposure: Regular workshops, seminars, and artist talks offer students the chance to interact with renowned practitioners from India and abroad. Multidisciplinary Learning: Students can choose electives across photography, printmaking, mural painting, folk and tribal art, and new media. Research Focus: Curriculum includes Indian and Western aesthetics, contemporary visual culture, art curation, and portfolio development.
