Vision and Message of Dean

The vision of the School of Media and Communication is to nurture responsible and socially conscious media & communication, and information science professionals who are well-versed in both theory and practice, and contribute meaningfully to society through the dynamic and evolving fields of media and communication, and library and information science.
The School, which was started in 2007, currently offers two Under Graduate programmes – B.A. (Media and Mass Communication – 4-year honors Programme under NEP) and B.V.A. (Painting – 4-year Programme under NEP); three Post Graduate programmes – M.A. (Mass Communication), M.Sc. (Electronic Media), and M.Lib.I.Sc. (2-year integrated), and three Ph.D. programmes in Mass Communication, Electronic Media, and Library and Information Science respectively.
The School has a state-of-art Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC) equipped with latest solid state technology, a TV studio for multi-camera productions, adequate number of cameras for digital still photography and High Definition Video cameras with accessories for outdoor and studio shoots, digital audio work stations, sound recording and editing facilities, multimedia lab with relevant software for print journalism and still photography.
Hence, the learners are trained with well-equipped infrastructure and vast experienced faculties in the spheres of journalism, television production, radio production, advertising, public relations, film studies, digital media, development communication, media and culture studies, photography, audio and video editing, painting, traditional librarianship, ILMS and digital library software with hands-on experience, advanced information retrieval techniques, soft skills, informetrics and scientometrics, library internship, and modern research tools and techniques.
The School has signed MoU with University of Toulon, France, and Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi. Our aim is to nurture cutting edge media professionals with effective communication and critical thinking skills; and library and information science professionals with intensive training on the emerging ICT tools for providing value added services in the changing environment.
To achieve the aim, we work towards preparing young minds with a strong foundation in values and principles, which proactively intervene in the development of a humane society.
