The School of Physical, Chemical and Applied Sciences (SPCAS) consists of five departments and a Central Instrumentation Centre. The five departments include Physics, Chemistry, Earth Science, Coastal Disaster Management and Applied Psychology. Four of the departments are situated inside the main campus of Pondicherry University while the Coastal Disaster Management Department is located in Andaman & Nicobar Islands Campus. This school boasts of highly experienced and reputed academicians. The school of SPCAS is well known for quality publications in various internationally reputed journals. All the faculty members are actively engaged in teaching, research, publication and outreach activities in addition to a number of collaborative research programs with other esteemed universities and research centres within and outside the country. Currently, there are a number of research projects with the faculty members of the school, funded by different national and international funding agencies. In today’s rapidly transitioning world, scientific research contributions of the faculty members of this school are immensely valuable towards the dissemination of quality education. The team spirit in terms of coordination and cooperation among the faculty members is the strength of the school.

As Dean of this prestigious school, I desire to witness the school’s collective contributions and further innovations, in collaboration with industries, in order to benefit the quality of life of the masses, through economically effective industrial growth.  I would expect all the faculty members to be engaged in more collaborative and interdisciplinary research, in addition to knowledge dissemination of their research findings through publication in international impact factor journals and organising outreach activities for school and college students to foster a healthy growth of scientific knowledge, thus catering to the need of generating future human resources for scientific innovations. Active engagement of research scholars in various research projects should enhance their knowledge in the respective fields which persistently promotes multilevel advancements for the students.

I hope that the school sustains its national and global stature of repute in the days to come. Hoping to receive all possible support from the administration of the university for better maintenance of all the scientific instruments in addition to support to all the faculty with some seed money, for motivating them in research. At the same time, I urge all the faculty members to motivate and mentor the students and scholars for their career progression.
